What to expect when you are undertaking a kitchen renovation
A kitchen renovation can be one of the most disruptive renovations because the kitchen is generally the centre of activity in the house!
Things to be prepared for include:
- Being without a kitchen for a period of time. Set up a temporary kitchen in another part of the house. This could be something as simple as a table with your necessary dishes, cutlery and pots and pans, a microwave and a dishpan. If available, it’s handy to BBQ (outside). Store food on a shelving unit.
- Having workers in your home all day, which will include some difficult times of the day when everyone is trying to get ready for school and work. We typically work 7:30am-4:00pm Monday to Friday.
- Kitchen renovations can take anywhere from four to six weeks to complete, sometimes longer depending on any number of the following factors:
- Availability of material selections
- Sub trade availability
- Some of the materials needed can have six to eight weeks lead time, such as kitchen cabinets, flooring, appliances, plumbing and lighting fixtures. It helps if you pre-select and purchase these things and either have it on site or arrange for delivery as required. The contractor will calculate any measurements and/or square footage.
- There will be construction mess. We clean up as best we can, but dust will get into everything. Remove all breakables and store in a safe place, away from the construction zone.
